The digestive system plays a crucial role in the microbiome as it transforms food into the necessary nutrients that the body needs for energy, development, and cellular repair. The gut microbiome consists of numerous microorganisms that interact with various physiological systems and provide support for various bodily processes. An optimal microbiota can reduce the likelihood of developing obesity, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and cancer. However, having a microbiome that lacks diversity and houses potentially harmful microorganisms can increase your risk of developing a number of illnesses.
The tea is sweet and tangy—just think of a plum.
